Redesigning FakturHuko
The overall look was actually already at a level on the first try that I was fine with and not embarrassed by. But at the same time, it was a rather basic, somewhat bland design. When I recently started creating designs for book websites - czech-this.com/book-websites - I discovered, while making five designs using the Claude Design system, that this is a path that is more than usable. I was honestly completely thrilled with the results, and it immediately became clear to me that I had to redesign some of my own projects. The first one to come up was FakturHuko.
Using Claude Design, I proposed a new visual style, which also led to a few new design features: a new logo, a new dashboard, search, a notification center, color switching, a hidden feature for changing the form of address, and many other things. It’s interesting how an attractive design changes the experience of using an app, and suddenly you look forward to using it.
Redesign process
The foundation is the paid version of Claude, which includes Claude Design. Be careful: it burns through tokens quickly, so quickly that you may run out before you get to the final version of the new design. Research and a precise brief about what you want from the redesign are also important. You need to gather screenshots of designs that match your idea and give them to Claude as references. Tell it that this is a redesign of an existing project and that it will be deployed to it. It will then prepare materials for Claude Code, which are passed on to it. I’d say preparing the design with Claude was the easier part. The implementation took longer and is work that needs to be done gradually, fine-tuning page by page. In the end it took quite a lot of time, but I’m happy with the result. It also gave me new impulses to improve the existing solution, and implementing them was a joy.
Easter egg
What probably made me happiest was the new dashboard after logging into the system, which now looks so good that I enjoy just looking at it for a while. I also like little details such as the greeting at the top, where it says Hello, ondrej.huk ... it is now possible to change it to Hello, Ondra... directly in the page design. It’s a completely minor thing and it’s not in the settings anywhere, nor is it obvious that it can be done; you just click and rewrite it to whatever you want. It’s a kind of easter egg that doesn’t need to be placed in the app settings at all. Those who discover it will be pleased; everyone else is unaffected in how they use the app. I think it’s exactly these small details, when not overdone and not too much time is spent on them, that help communicate to users that it was made with joy and care.
FakturHuko has room for further development and improvement and is on a very good path. I look forward to following its дальнейší development and seeing how satisfied users are with it.
